Hi,
My name is Penny and I live in Golden, Colorado. My teen aged son and I take care/watch out for of my elderly (she is like 88) widowed mother in her home which is a few blocks from our own. She has lived in her current home since my dad built it in 1962. I grew up there. There has been a lot of fighting, violence and pain in that house.
About 3 months after my dad, my aunt and my uncle (who lived a few houses away) all passed away (5-6 years ago) my mom's back door bell began ringing in the middle of the night. It would ring a few nights in a row then stop for a few days and start again. This lasted a few weeks then stopped completely. A few months later the front door began to ring in the night. This also stopped after a few weeks. This pattern became a regular thing, on a few weeks, off a few weeks, front and back door and then occasionally a knock on the door or the windows. I never heard this in person myself when I was there in the house, but I did hear it occasionally over the telephone when talking to her late at night. I never found anyone there when I jumped in the car and ran to check it out. Never saw anything while driving by or waiting in my truck outside.
My mom is a Christian and at that time told me to leave it alone-but it scared the heck out of me. I smudged and salted, swept and chanted when she was away. It would go away for a few months and come back.
Gradually other things began happening. She began hearing or finding cabinet and refrigerator doors open/ing, having the tv come on in the middle of the night, lights coming on or going off by themselves. She began describing scratching noises in the walls and even sometimes in her bedroom. Things running around in the attic, her dog barking at nothing, strange smells. Then she began described things running across her bed running across the room and waking her up. She allotted all of this to spiders, mice, birds who got in through the chimney. This freaked me out but I could not find anyone to tell me what to do.
I asked around but got no real opinions from anyone. Everyone told me she was just a senile old woman or she must be nuts. I worried and worried but finally when a person who actually believed me told me as long it is this type of childish behavior, not to worry, if anything wanted to hurt her it would have already done it, I let it go again for a while.
Last winter the doorbell got much worse so my son and I installed cameras to watch both of the doors all night as we recorded it. We watched endless hours upon hours of tapes-sure we were going to see something-but saw nothing except white lines and fuzziness at the times she said she heard the doorbell. My son described this as some type of interference. We found no tracks in the snow, nothing. After months of recording and seeing nothing, we gave up again.
Last spring my brother was having some marital problems and he moved in with her. Soon after, he began hearing the doorbell, too. When he looked there was no one there. He began finding doors and even windows open. Gradually, he began to hear things in the house and told me it was "freaky "and a"scary" and that at times he felt a chill and the hair on the back of his neck would stand up, he would get scared or sick or afraid for no reason. Start crying out of the blue, get very sleepy, or deathly sick, especially at night. He told me there were times he would swear someone was in the room with him, or he would think he could hear someone walking around or sitting down or moving things but no one was there, then the feeling would pass. This is my intelligent rational 60 year old grown man brother telling me this.
My brother recently moved out and all had been quiet for a few weeks until tonight. My mom called me late crying hysterically and said she just wanted to hear my voice, that she had just felt a chill and something in the room scared her, made her feel unsafe, and she was terrified. She described it as a feeling as if something just washed over her, engulfed her, grabbed her from the inside. She was crying and shaking and very upset.
This is scaring the heck out of my son and I but we have no idea what to do. My mom will not believe this is paranormal activity, she will not move or leave or let me do anything. I am in fear of her sanity and even her life at this point.
Can you advise me?
Do you know anyone in Colorado who might talk to me about this?
Thank you,
Penny
